# SAIF.Application.Policy overview

> **Documentation context:** Packaged Component (NuGet)

`SAIF.Application.Policy` is an application-layer orchestration library for policy retrieval and policy-header composition. It does not own the policy domain model or the primary data-access implementations; instead it coordinates lower-layer policy, agency, view, and BOF services behind a `PolicyAppManager` surface and exposes policy-header settings and data-provider contracts to consuming applications.

## Purpose
- Resolve a policy context from a policy number, decide whether the current principal may use that context, and expose the resulting policy aggregates to consuming applications.
- Assemble the policy-header payload and its security-filtered association data while delegating most persistence and business-object retrieval to `SAIF.Business.View.Policy`, `SAIF.Business.Policy.Core`, `SAIF.Business.Policy.Agency`, and `SAIF.BOF.Business`.
- Centralize policy-layer presentation-adjacent behavior such as Business Online access text, demo masking, header help-text lookup, and non-production test-information display.

## Responsibilities
- Create and own the Oracle `Policy` portal and fixed `GEN` database identity.
- Coordinate policy retrieval, validity checks, and policy-level authorization.
- Compose policy-header settings, data-provider, association filtering, and help-text behavior.
- Classify the current principal's policy-related roles through local authorization checks.

## Key components
- `PolicyAppManager`: application-manager entry point that coordinates context setup, authorization, and access to policy aggregates.
- `clsPolicySecurity`: local role-classification service for agent, producer, auditor, demo, group, loss-control, policyholder, quick-file, and SAIF-employee decisions.
- `PolicyHeader` types: contracts and standard implementations for header settings, test information, association filtering, help text, and rendered header values.

## Open questions
- **Version drift risk.** This library consumes the **1.x** generation of `SAIF.BOF.Business.View.Policy`, while the documented dependency at [SAIF.Business.View.Policy](../saif-business-view-policy/overview.md) is the **2.x** generation from this run. The documentation can link to that library, but the runtime package version used by `SAIF.Application.Policy` may not match its documented behavior.**
- `SAIF.Business.Policy.Premium.Billing` is used for deposit-on-hand retrieval, but the exact producing package could not be pinned from the available findings.**

> **Note:** Statements marked with `**` could not be confirmed; treat as unknown until verified.
