HoverPanel

HoverPanel is the foundational, content-only hover-popup control in this library, built on the AJAX Control Toolkit's HoverMenuExtender. It is composed into AutoBindControlAncestor (for validation-error display), HoverLabel, HoverPicture, and HoverHelp (via HoverPicture) as the shared popup-rendering primitive.

Purpose

  • Renders a borderless Panel/Table popup anchored to a target control via HoverMenuExtender, only when ContentText is non-empty.
  • Provides the shared popup mechanics (TargetControlId, PopupPosition, PanelWidth) reused by every other hover control in this library, either directly or by composition.

Behavioral notes

  • RenderContents wraps the HoverMenuExtender.RenderControl call in a Try/Catch that silently discards any rendering exception* — a rendering failure in the extender produces no visible error to the page.
  • Sets the popup panel's CSS Z-INDEX to a very high value to ensure it renders above other page controls.

Constraints and usage notes

  • TargetControlId must reference a valid control's UniqueID on the same page for the hover popup to trigger correctly.
